Over 75 years. One idea.
Porsche was founded in a rented sawmill in Gmünd, Austria by Ferry Porsche — with no factory, very little money, and one idea: build the sports car he had always wanted but could never find. The first car to bear the Porsche name was assembled by hand. It was light. It was fast. It was beautiful. Everything built since has been an extension of that first idea.
The first Porsche. Built entirely by hand using a Volkswagen platform and engine, transformed into something completely new. Just 52 cars in the first year. The foundation of everything that followed.
Unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Designed by Ferry Porsche's son, Ferdinand "Butzi" Porsche. Rear-engined, rear-wheel drive, air-cooled flat-six. It should not have worked. It defined an era and is still in production today.
Porsche's first overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The 917 was loud, fast, and terrifying to drive. It won, and cemented Porsche as one of the greatest motorsport brands in the world.
All-wheel drive, twin-turbo flat-six, adaptive suspension, titanium valves — technology the rest of the industry would not reach for years. The 959 was the most advanced road car ever built at the time of its release.
Porsche's first fully electric car. Nürburgring lap record. 800-volt architecture. Proof that the transition to electric does not require compromising what Porsche means. The story continues.
Over 75 years. More than 30,000 race victories. One idea — unchanged since 1948.
